Dark Side Of Having Too Much Coffee

Topic of coffee, whether it is good or bad is very controversial.

Where in my previous blog "According to science, Some health benefits of Coffee" i have discussed a lot of benefits of adding a cup of coffee in your every day diet. Where coffee is full of antioxidants and give you energy and keep you focus, their are some down of it as well.


If your having too much coffee in a day, you must have to remember that you're not only consuming coffee or enjoying it's taste, but also consuming a lot of caffeine as well.


A single cup of coffee (8 fl Oz) of coffee contains about 95mg of caffeine. Studies shows that 400mg of caffeine everyday is too much and is the safe dose of caffeine (link). Means 4cups of coffee can give you approximately 400mg of caffeine.

Note: CAFFEINE IS NOT ONLY FOUND IN COFFEE BUT ALSO IN CHOCOLATE, COLD DRINKS, TEA AS WELL.


So, lets take a look, how too much caffeine can degrade your performance of work and your health.


1. Too Much Caffeine May Cause Insomnia

As in my previous blog about benefits if coffee i have said that , coffee/caffeine gives you energy and let you stay focused.

If your sensitive to caffeine then it might hamper your sleep and don't give you a quality sleep at your sleep times. (Link)



2. Too Much Caffeine Can Cause Head Aches

It is truth that having caffeine can give you relieve from headache, but research found that having too much caffeine can leads to headache and also leads to migraine. (Link)


3. Coffee Makes Our Heart Beat Fast And Cause Forceful Contraction Of Heart.

Many have felt that after having coffee our heart beats increase because of caffeine which increases the blood flow, and also let heat to force contract.

Resent research shows that after having coffee heart produces more forcefull contractions and it is normal. But not be beneficial for long term heart health and for them who have undergoing heart problems. (Link)

5. Caffeine Overdose

It was rare to found caffeine overdose , but doing so leads to many adverse symptoms, including death. It was seen to someone who are on going medical conditions and to those who are sensitive or lower tolerance to caffeine.


6. Caffeine Might Not Be Good Who Are Suffering From Type-2 Diabetics

A study conducted by the American Diabetes Association showed that caffeine impaired glucose metabolism in those with type 2 diabetes. (Link)


7. Too Much Caffeine Can Leads To Reduce Fertility In Women

A study from The University of Nevada School of Medicine showed that caffeine can reduce a woman’s chances of becoming pregnant by about 27%. (Link)



8. Can Cause Indigestion

Peoples who consume lots of caffeine or caffeinated beverages have sometimes reports about upset or bloated stomach or indigestion. This is mostly occurs when caffeine is consumed in empty stomach. (Link)


9. Caffeine Can Rise Blood Pressure Levels

As this thing i have discussed in my previous blog about coffee and blood pressure. It is normal and very little amount of blood pressure increases while having coffee. But too much caffeine can increase blood pressure significantly.

People with hypertension were given 250 mg of caffeine (about 2 coffees) and the data revealed that their blood pressure was elevated for about 2-3 hours after the caffeine. (Link)

A second study performed by The Mayo Clinic found similar results from a 160 mg dose. All participants experienced a marked rise in blood pressure and it was the most pronounced in those that didn’t normally consume caffeine.


Some Other Problems Of Consuming Too Much Caffeine

  • Adrenal fatigue

  • Irregular heartbeat

  • Hallucinations

  • Accelerates bone loss.(link)

  • Tremors



Caffeine is a drug and may affect people differently, tho coffee have lots of health benefits and can be included in you daily life. But anything too much is always harmful for your health as well.

The risks of suffering from any of the harmful effects of caffeine are diminished by being aware of how much is personally being consumed daily.
